Atlanta Celebrates President Barack H. Obama
All eyes were on the United States of America yesterday as Barack H. Obama became the country’s first African American president.
Only In The A joined the Atlanta Urban League of Young Professionals (AULYP) at Artistry for their inauguration luncheon; and bundled up to be attend Comcast and Q100’s outdoor watch party at Centennial Park.
“I feel proud,” smiles Vietnam War Veteran Lynn King, who is eager to see President Obama fulfill his promise to bring the troops home. “Sixteen year of Bush was enough.”
Sharing King’s feeling of pride and hope, former Gannet Research Analyst, Greg Norman explains, “I wanted to wait until this [the inaugural ceremony] happened, else I would wake-up thinking it was just a dream.”
Back at the AULYP luncheon, restaurant patrons let out a jubilant roar when Atlanta treasure and Civil Rights Activist Reverend Dr Joseph E. Lowery, took to the stage for the benediction.
“And in the joy of a new beginning we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead man, and when white will embrace what is right. Let all those who’ll do justice and love mercy say amen.” [Transcript from ABC.net.au]
Now that all the fanfare, inaugural balls and celebrations are yesterday’s news, all eyes remain on the United States of America with great anticipation. Today, the real test of President Obama’s capacity to lead this nation begins.
If President Obama remains true to the promises made during his triumphant campaign, his numerous news conferences during his transition to power, and again reiterated during his inaugural address; then today marks the dawn of a new era in the United States of America.
